A cricketer who excels at both batting and bowling is known as an all-rounder. Despite the fact that all bowlers must bat and a small number of batsmen bowl on occasion, the majority of players are experts in just one of the two disciplines. Every team needs a player who can contribute to more than one aspect of the game, regardless of how good they are at batting or bowling. In all different forms of the game, an all-rounder offers the balance that every team wants and requires.

Mohammad Nabi
NOPLAYERTEAMRATINGCAREER BEST RATING
1Mohammad Nabi AFG285355 v Bangladesh, 15/09/2019

Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi is an all-rounder who bats right-handed and bowls off the break. He was a key figure in Afghanistan’s ascension to the top level of international cricket, appearing in both their first One Day International and their first Test match, both in April 2009 and June 2018. During their first appearances in the 2014 Asia Cup and the 2015 Cricket World Cup, he captained the team. Nabi has also played in several Twenty20 franchise tournaments and was the first Afghan player to be picked in the Indian Premier League player auction.

He began playing cricket at the age of 10 in Peshawar, and his family returned to Afghanistan in 2000, where he began playing with Mohammad Shahzad, Asghar Afghan, and Shapoor Zadran, all of whom would go on to play for the Afghan national team.

In 2006, Nabi represented Afghanistan in a tour match in Mumbai, India, against the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). Former English Test captain Mike Gatting noticed him after he top-scored for Afghanistan with 116 in a major win. Nabi was then accepted into England’s MCC Young Cricketers program. In 2007, Nabi made his first-class debut for the MCC against Sri Lanka A during a tour match.

ODI career

In April 2009, he made his international debut against Scotland in an ICC World Cup Qualifier at Benoni, where he scored a fifty and helped his team win. Even before his ODI debut, he was instrumental in getting Afghanistan there. Even though Afghanistan did not qualify for that World Cup, he has been a permanent fixture in the Afghanistan cricket team since then. Nabi was on the team when Afghanistan defeated Scotland in their first World Cup match in 2015. Afghanistan qualified for the 2019 World Cup as well, and Nabi was still present, despite the team failing to win a single game.

IPL career

Mohammad Nabi made history when he was one of two Afghanistan players purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2017 IPL Auction. Despite playing only three IPL matches for SRH in 2017, he was incredibly effective with the ball, with an economy rate of less than 5.5. He was brought back by SRH for the IPL 2018 season INR. 1 crore and appeared in five matches, taking three wickets. The right-handed middle-order batsman can use the long lever as well as bowl some expert off-spinners. He had the longest season run in 2019, appearing in eight games and taking four wickets. He’s a valuable cricketer, and it’ll be interesting to see how Nabi fits into the franchise’s plans.

T20I career

Nabi made his T20I debut against Ireland on 1 February 2010 and has since been an integral part of the Afghanistan cricket team that qualified for the World T20 for four consecutive editions from 2010 to 2016. Afghanistan has also qualified for the 2020 T20WC, which will be held in India in October and November 2021. Nabi has 72 wickets at an average of 26.81 in 80 T20Is. He has also scored 1366 runs.

Test career

In May 2018, Afghanistan played their first-ever Test match against India, and Nabi was a part of that historic match. However, during the one-off Test against Bangladesh, he announced his retirement from Test cricket to concentrate on white-ball cricket.

Who is the No 1 Test All-Rounder At Present?

Jason Holder

Jason Holder
NOPLAYERTEAMRATINGCAREER BEST RATING
1Jason Holder WI423485 v England, 12/07/2020

Jason Holder, a towering fast-bowling all-rounder, has long been regarded as a cricketer with great potential. Holder’s 6’7″ frame belies his sluggish bowling pace, but he’s earned a reputation as a precise and cunning bowler.

In 2014, he made his Test debut against New Zealand at Bridgetown, scoring a half-century. His first Test century came against England in 2015, when he hit an unbeaten 103 * in the fourth innings to help the Windies keep the tourists at bay, resulting in a draw with the hosts trailing by seven wickets. Holder’s year as a bowler has been a breakout one, with three of his four five-wicket hauls in Test cricket coming this year. 11-103 against Bangladesh was an excellent contribution from the big man in Kingston, helping the Windies to a 2-0 series win.

Holder has long been regarded as a leader, and he was named ODI captain after Dwayne Bravo, making him the Windies’ youngest ODI captain in history. Later that year, he captained the Windies to the 2015 World Cup, before becoming the second-youngest Test skipper in Windies history in September of the same year. He has grown into the position of all-format captain, and will hopefully lead a resurgent Test side in the coming years.

Jason Holder handed over the West Indies Test captaincy to Kraigg Brathwaite in March 2021.
